HMP Humber is a Category ‘C’ Resettlement Prison for adult males. HMP Humber is made up of two sites which currently are in the process of being merged together (formerly HMP Wolds and HMP Everthorpe). HMP Humber is planned to form one innovative prison which aims to effectively move prisoners along their journey in the prison towards resettlement upon release.

Accommodation

Reception Criteria: Two separate criteria for the respective individual sites until full physical merger 2014/15 

Category C, adult males. Generally medium to long term sentenced prisoners (sentenced to over 12 months) With priority given to offenders from the local Humber sub-region, North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

HMP Humber would not normally accept:

• VP/rule 45 offenders
• Any unstabilised medical conditions

Regime

Currently the prison operates separate regimes on each site. In March 2014 as we move towards a standardized regime in line with the specification for a category C prison there will be some changes. Full integration of the regime will take place when the sites are physically merged in January 2015. 

The prison operates on the basis of a journey and has dedicated wings for induction/complex needs, drug treatment, older prisoners, enhanced and a 14 bed hostel for Category D prisoners.  It is anticipated that prisoners at HMP Humber will move throughout the site and that progression through the journey towards the resettlement phase and release will be for the majority of prisoners.  Those who are assesses as suitable for open conditions will have the opportunity to work outside of the establishment on a daily basis in both prison based employment as part of prison estate management, community placements and also in paid employment.  Those who access this regime will be predominantly based in the hostel with some places as part of the enhanced unit.  The establishment focuses upon opportunities where prisoners can demonstrate active citizenship and works closely with the local community in partnership with RSA transitions.

Bus

Nearest train station is Brough which is 5 miles away – a taxi is required to complete the journey. 

Train

From the South and West: Use the M62 and exit at junction 36 and follow the signs.

Car

From the East: leave the A63 at the turn off for Market Weighton/South Cave (A1034), Follow the road into South Cave. At the crossroads turn left towards North Cave.

From the North: stay on the A1034 until you reach South Cave. At the crossroads turn right towards North Cave.
