Guys Marsh Prison information
HMP Guys Marsh is a category C training prison. Opened in 1960 as a borstal, Guys Marsh became a young offender's institution (YOI) in 1984. After completion of perimeter fencing in 1992 it became a closed establishment and began to accommodate adults.
In 2008 the young offenders were moved out and Guys Marsh became an adult male Cat C prison holding Life Sentenced and Indeterminate Sentenced Public Protection prisoners (IPPs) as well as those undertaking the Integrated Drug Treatment Service (IDTS). Guys Marsh is a designated Foreign National Prisoner Centre and is noted as a Priority Prolific Offender Centre of Excellence.
