Reception Criteria
Normal reception arrangements: We accept Category D prisoners – determinate and indeterminate – who usually have more than 4 months left to serve. ISP transfers are arranged through Population Management and are accepted on allocation following Parole Board Review for open conditions. The principal catchment area includes prisoners from: Northumbria, Tyne & Wear, Co Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire. We do not currently take Sex Offenders.
The prison focuses on helping longer term prisoners resettle in the North of England & Yorkshire. This it does by actively encouraging them to participate in Community payback type projects in the Teesside area before progressing to paid employment in the community and/or attendance at a local college or university.
