Domestic/social visit times: Tues (13:45 – 16:00pm), Thurs (13:45 – 16:00pm), Sat (13:45 – 16:00pm), Sun (13:45 – 16:00pm).
Legal Visits/Special Visit times: Tues (9 -11am), Wed (9 -11am), Thurs (9-11am).

Accommodation:
The Prisons accommodation is provided in seven house blocks:
Benbow, Raleigh, Nelson, Grenville
Drake – Adult Wing,
Collingwood – Induction Unit
Beaufort – Skills Development Unit.
There is also a Care & Control Unit.
Reception criteria: The prison will only accept prisoners with the following criteria:
Sentence:
- Young Offenders - No sentence longer than 10 years – This includes Extended Sentences but does not include Indeterminate Sentences for Public Protection (ISPP prisoners) who can only be accepted through prior arrangement with our Offender Management Unit.
- Adult category C prisoners - No sentence longer than 8 years, local to SW region.
- Adult prisoners subject to Indeterminate Sentences will be accepted through prior arrangement with the Offender Management Unit
Time to serve:
- Adult category C prisoners with not less than 6 months to serve
- No minimum for Young Offender prisoners
Accepted:
- Prisoners subject to Integrated Drug Treatment System (IDTS) arrangements: Through arrangement with HMP/YOI Portland PCT department.
Not Accepted:
- Any prisoner who has been segregated under Rule 49 (GOOD) at any time in the 3 months prior to transfer to Portland (except by prior agreement of the Residential Governor & Observation, Classification & Allocation Manager (OCA )
- Any prisoner who has been segregated under Rule 49 own protection at any time in the last 3 months prior to transfer to Portland (except by prior agreement of the Residential Governor, & Observation, Classification & Allocation Manager (OCA )
- Any prisoner who has been on the E list at any time in the 3 months prior to transfer to Portland (except by prior agreement of the Head of Security & Operations)
- Any prisoner with outstanding court appearances within two months
- Any prisoner with outstanding external medical appointments within two months.
- Any prisoner requiring 24 hour medical cover
- Any prisoner requiring location on ground floor accommodation (except by governor to governor agreement)
- Any prisoner unable to use stairs (except by governor to governor agreement)
- Any Young Offender sex offenders (unless they have completed a Sex Offender Treatment Programme)
- Any adult sex offenders
